for my leopard gecko’s or bearded dragon’s home. i have like a 40 quart plastic storage tub from wal-mart and i was wondering if i can house my leopard gecko or bearded dragon in it. i’m getting him/her tomorrow, still haven’t decided which to get and i want to know before i go. i would like to keep it in a plastic tub if possible, because its cheaper to get a 40 quart tub than a 10 gallon glass/acrylic tank. also is it safe to put a heat pad under one or not. how would i heat the tub properly without having to worry about a fire starting or the plastic melting, and just one more question do leopard geckos need light because i have done some research before hand and have read 2 different sides. some say that they need it and others say they don’t because they are nocturnal which is true.
whats the tub made out of (what plastic)
if its a plastic hat can go to high temps (like polypropylene) then it should be fine for leopard geckos (naturally you’ll need to drill ventilation holes etc) but i know many people who keep leo’s in tubs. i wouldnt recommend it for bearded dragons as they dont tend to do so well in tubs and will out grow a tub pretty quick

Need to know how to lay everything out and the equipment needed such as soaker hoses, etc. The plastic tank is a water storage tank I intend to collect rain water in but since that may not be enough, I could incorporate it to work with my rubber- lined fishpond so that it would be tank to pond to soaker hoses in garden.
Any ideas would be helpful.
I need details from below the house roof, where I will collect the rain runoff, all the way to the garden which is about70 feet away. I plan on using the 90 gallon tank to collect the rain runoff. The pond is across from the garden. All 3 areas are triangle from one another.
Put tank centrally locased on side of garden, On bottom of tank put a shorat length of hose, a shut off valve, another short length of hose that reaches the ground, a tee. On each side of tee a short lengh of hose, a tee for each row. ON center discharge of tee run a length of soaker hose length of row.
From pond you’ll have to have a pump and hose enough to fill tank.
I would fill tank from faucet on house as it would be clean water. Pond water will probably have chemicals in it to retard algea growth. If you have fish in it (the pond), the water could be used as fertilizer. But you would be filling the pond all the time when you drain out water to fill tank for garden.
You would still have to put chemical in pond all the time for algea if yoyu do that.
If it rained all the time or at least every other day it would be a wonderful way to water your garden!

which is the best overhead water storage system-cement or plastic and why?
cement brick tank would develop leaks in a few years and are difficult to seal. Plastic tanks seated inside a brick tank would keep water cool in summer.

plastic, alluminum?? im clueless, can someone please help?
usually there are 2 types of tanks. 1- you can recognize the plastic ones. they are white or some times blue. but the common type of tanks are 2- made of carbon steel with different coatings. the most common tanks are made of steel with zinc coating or Pb coating (galvanized).

You don’t weld plastic. Best bet is to get two part epoxy and glue it. The two part epoxy is one of the strongest glues made and that is why you have to mix it from the two parts. They make one especially for plastics as well.
MAKE SURE the epoxy is fully cured before using the container. The directions will tell you how long to wait.
